— About me! ★

Hi, welcome to my site! My name is Nicole, but most folks online call me Cobalt. I'm a 3D modeler, animator, and illustrator based in Texas who recently graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's in VFX from Columbia College Hollywood. As for what I do... ask anybody and they'll tell you: I'm obsessed with cartoons. They're all I ever watch, all I talk about, and all I draw!

It all started when I was six years old. I was just learning to read, and my parents knew how much I loved cartoons, so they'd always buy any and every animated movie they saw that was new on the shelves. One of those movies happened to be Dreamworks' Shrek. I was completely captivated by that movie, especially the fearsome female dragon. ( So much so, that I liked to play pretend that I was that dragon, chasing around other kids! ) Other than the dragon, I remember I was able to read the job titles and names for a few of the people who worked on the movie, and that's when it clicked for me— Hey, someone was paid to make this?! I knew then that I wanted to be an artist when I grew up. And more specifically, I wanted to make an animated piece of my own.

From that point onward, I paid greater attention to the craftsmanship of the movies and tv shows I watched and started to think about the sort of skills required of the people who worked on them. I began to draw... a lot. So much so, that by the time I was in high school I started to develop problems in the joints and tendons of my wrists and fingers, from drawing so much! I was always particularly interested in monsters, dragons, aliens, and mythical creatures more than I was inclined to draw humans.

Shows and movies that greatly impacted me and my artistic style include Samurai Jack, the PowerPuff Girls, SpongeBob SquarePants, Gravity Falls, Looney Toons, the Lilo and Stitch movies and spin-off show, and Hanna-Barbera ( Read: Boomerang ) toons.

As for what I hope to accomplish with my work...

I want to tell stories that are relevant. I want to reach people with my ideas, and inspire a younger generation to pursue a career in the Arts just as my childhood idols in the industry did for me.

Thus, my work trends towards cartoony rather than realistic, as I feel that cartoons are an accessible medium regardless of your age or demographic. I hope that after browsing my works, you'll find that you agree.
